Headbone is produced using breathable textile materials sourced from surplus fabrics of large-scale textile manufacturers, reducing material waste and supporting sustainable production. An internal non-breakable shaping wire is integrated into the structure and has undergone pressure and durability testing to ensure long-term form retention, flexibility, and user safety without compromising comfort
The primary challenge was reinterpreting culturally rooted headwear into a contemporary, functional design without losing its symbolic value. Internally, the project addressed social inclusivity and dignity in relation to hair loss. Externally, challenges included developing a safe, durable shaping mechanism within textile constraints, sourcing sustainable materials, and ensuring compliance with production and safety standards while maintaining aesthetic integrity.
The project started in April 2020 in Istanbul and was completed in July 2020. Headbone was first launched to the public through the brands official website in August 2020.
Headbone operates through an intuitive interaction between the user and its integrated shaping wire. The wearer positions the textile over the head and gently bends the internal structure to sculpt see, secure, and adjust the desired form. The design maintains its shape without pins or knots, enabling rapid transformation, stable wear, and repeatable styling with minimal physical effort.
