Performance Wear for Kufoon Design Studio
The surface design, inspired by traditional marbling art, is applied to a high density polyethylene performance fabric. Each pattern originates from handcrafted compositions and is digitally adapted to preserve its organic and non repetitive character. The lightweight, water resistant and wind resistant structure offers durability, breathability, and freedom of movement, creating a functional garment that balances artistic expression with technical performance.

K Marble Flow is a performance wear project inspired by the fluid and non-repetitive nature of traditional marbling art. Each pattern is first created by hand using authentic marbling techniques and then digitally adapted to wearable forms while preserving its organic flow and unpredictable character. Applied onto a lightweight technical material, the collection moves with the body, combining artistic expression with durability, comfort, and freedom of movement. The project bridges handcrafted surface art and functional garment construction, transforming marbling into a dynamic, performance oriented textile system.

During development, focus was placed on the structural behavior and sewability of 43 gsm high-density polyethylene nonwoven material. Prototyping minimized surface perforation and preserved material integrity using a size 9 fine needle and single needle straight stitch. Controlled seam placement reduced bulk and maintained flexibility. The thermally bonded structure enabled clean raw edge finishes without additional seam reinforcement.
The primary challenge of the project was adapting the unpredictable and fluid nature of handcrafted marbling into a functional performance garment. Preserving the organic character of the patterns while meeting technical requirements such as material durability, sewability, and user comfort required extensive prototyping and material testing. The balance between artistic expression and production constraints was ultimately achieved through iterative experimentation and close collaboration with material specialists.
Produced on September 25, in Antalya ,Turkey Exhibited at ISPO Munich in December 2024, where it received the Best Product Award.
The purpose of K Marble Flow is to provide protection against sudden rain during walking or running by allowing the wearer to put it on quickly when needed. Thanks to its water-resistant and wind-resistant structure, the garment effectively protects the user from light rain while maintaining breathability. Its lightweight and durable material ensures comfort and ease of movement. Designed for practical urban use, K Marble Flow supports daily mobility by combining protection, flexibility, and functional performance.
The research behind K Marble Flow focuses on exploring how traditional marbling art can be adapted to contemporary performance wear. The study examines how handcrafted marbling patterns behave when transferred into digital formats and applied to lightweight technical materials. Through prototyping and material testing, the durability, usability, and visual continuity of the designs were analyzed. The results demonstrate that marbling can function as a dynamic textile surface that preserves its organic character while meeting performance requirements.
The starting point of K Marble Flow is the observation of how traditional marbling behaves on surfaces beyond paper. The fluid movement on water and the balance between control and chance inspired an exploration of how these qualities could be translated into wearable forms. The idea of transferring handcrafted marbling into digital environments emerged through experimental observations focusing on pattern scale, surface continuity, and interaction with body movement.
K Marble Flow Performance Wear has been a Iron winner in the Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns and Cloth Design award category in the year 2025 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Iron A' Design Award is awarded to good designs that meet the rigorous professional and industrial standards set by the A' Design Awards.
