Silk Scarf for Kyeong Hee Jeong

This silk scarf reinterprets Gyeongbokgung Palace Dancheong patterns by applying stained glass color techniques. The project focuses on the aesthetic transition of traditional colors into seasonal palettes. The patterns are based on the lotus motif and developed in four versions, each reflecting the specific light and color of the seasons over the palace. Produced on silk, the work utilizes digital printing to capture detailed motifs, achieving visual harmony for modern styling.

Unique Properties

Dancheong is a premium silk scarf that reinterprets the royal colors of Korea into a feast of light. Unlike traditional replicas, the seasonal motifs of Gyeongbokgung Palace are carved into a radiant form that resembles light passing through stained glass, reflecting Cattleya's identity. By transforming the classic palette into an aurora gradient, it creates a visually rich visual experience where the past meets the present.

Production Technology

This product is made from 100% premium silk, resulting in an elegant luster and a soft, luxurious touch. Advanced high-resolution digital textile printing (DTP) has been introduced to perfectly embody the intricate geometric patterns of Gyeongbokgung's monocheong and the mystical aurora gradient inspired by Obansec. Beyond mass production, expert artisans roll and finish the edges by hand, maintaining a supple silhouette while maximizing meticulous artisanal details and value as a high-end gift item.

Design Challenge

challenge lies in capturing the 500-year legacy of Gyeongbokgung Palace as a beautiful bridge between the past, present, and future. Just as the seasons change the colors of the same architectural space, this project encompasses four distinct patterns: vibrant flowers, radiant light, silent elegance, and elegant elegance. By reinterpreting the monochung with the logic of stained glass, it preserves tradition while projecting Cattleya's identity into a dream of modern beauty. Furthermore, it combines high-resolution digital printing with the natural luster of premium silk to overcome production limitations.

Project Duration

The project began in March 2025 in Seoul, South Korea with conception and design. Detailed pattern development and color sampling took place in Seoul in May 2025, AND final production was completed in August 2025.

Operation Flow

This scarf flexibly changes shape and pattern according to the user's styling. Whether tied in any knot, whether it's around the neck, head, or bag, the 600mm square silk overlaps or unfolds the mono-blue pattern of the aurora gradient to create a variety of silhouettes. The soft silk fabric flows naturally with the movement of the body, revealing different color depths depending on the light and angle. From the moment the wrapping ribbon is untied to the moment it is actually worn, users intuitively experience the process of traditional colors harmonizing with modern everyday styles.

Research

This research reinterprets Dancheong motifs into premium fashion. Analysis of Gyeongbokgung Palace elements revealed that consumers prefer subtle gradations over intense primary colors. The motifs were reconstructed into four seasonal patterns with aurora-like gradations, optimized for silk printing. This study proves that tradition gains resonance through re-creation rather than mere replication. By harmoniously combining K-culture with modern elegance, it demonstrates that traditional content remains sustainable in everyday life.

Inspiration

This project reinterprets the Gyeongbok Dancheong pattern and Confucian values as the light of the four seasons, bridging the past with the future. Inspired by the lotus flower, a symbol of noble character, it reconstructs the palace's seasonal light into four distinct patterns. From the floral scent of spring to the majesty of winter, each essence transforms into an optically rich pattern that reflects Cattleya's identity as a desire for classic beauty. These scarves share the harmony of Korean heritage as a beacon of eternal prosperity for women around the world.
