Fashion Design for Yunxi Liu
Inspired by the musical adaptation of Stendhal's Le Rouge et le Noir, this design uses French rock aesthetics to portray protagonist Julien's emotions in 19th century France. It channels rock's rebellious energy to capture the characters' inner conflicts amid European social tensions of the era. Combining 19th century court costume elements with punk details, the collection adopts the novel's iconic red and black palette, visualizing cross temporal spiritual conflict and fusion through a modern artistic perspective.

Unique Properties
Inspired by the musical adapted from Stendhal's The Red and the Black, this design uses French rock style to depict protagonist Julien’s emotions in the 19th century. Rock’s rebellious spirit, though seemingly incompatible with the literary work, accurately captures the characters’ core. Combining 19th-century European court costumes with punk elements, it adopts the classic red-and-black punk color scheme, echoing the novel’s themes, and presenting cross-era spiritual conflict and integration.

Production Technology
Handcrafted with genuine leather, rivets, safety pins and other custom-made elements.
Design Challenge
The technical difficulty lies in how to blend leather with other fabrics well, while the design difficulty lies in how to integrate European court attire with modern punk style.
Project Duration
This project commenced in December 2023 in Japan and finished in March 2024 in Japan.
Research
Research Type: Literary Analysis and Fashion Design Practice. Research Objective: To interpret literary classics through fashion, blending 19th-century court aesthetics with punk culture. Research Methods: Literature review, case analysis, and design practice. Data and Tools: Novels, musicals, European court clothing archives; Japan's Toray CAD and traditional tailoring techniques. Results: The series design integrates court silhouettes, punk elements, and a red-black color scheme. Insights: Literature can inspire fashion, enriching designs through the fusion of classic and modern elements. Real-world Impact: Guiding design innovation and meeting cultural fashion demands.
Inspiration
Inspired by musicals"Le rouge et le noir", this design interprets the literary spirit of the 19th century through contemporary fashion language, exploring the eternal struggle between passion and repression in human nature. Based on the history of European court attire and punk culture, it combines traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques, echoing the theme with the classic red and black color scheme, making the overall design a unique fusion of classic and contemporary elements.
