Taichi pattern has a history of 3000 years in China. It is a symbol of perfection, harmony, the infinite potential and the energy. Tao jewellery collection draws inspiration from the Taichi pattern. By using a spatial thinking, the pattern is deconstructed and diversified into several "Taichi" structures with different wearabilities. Tao jewellery collection draws inspiration from the Chinese traditional Taichi pattern. By using a spatial thinking, the pattern is deconstructed and diversified into several "Taichi" structures with different wearabilities. Movement and multi-way for wearing are introduced to the earring and necklace piece to bring the vitality and delight for the wearing experience.
Fashion jewelry, Chinese Traditional culture, 3d printing
Production includes sketching, 3d modeling, 3d printing, handicraft, and finishing. The jewelry collection is made by brass with silver/24k gold plated.
Decision making runs through every stage of the design and prototyping. Whether to remain the pattern of 3D printing and how; where to build the inlet and the support structures; how to turn the movable structure of the jewelry into reality and function well...As a designer and the 3D modeler of the project, I needed to adjust the 3D models and helped the factory to solve the problems, thinking through practicing.
The project started in July 2017 in Beijing and finished in February 2018 in Beijing.
There is an axle on the earring and it allows half part of the earring to rotate 180 degrees, and the ear stud on one half of the earring could pass through the hole on the other half, so the earring could transform from a stable round shape to a dynamic long earring. Tiny silicone stoppers are used inside the back of the necklace so the necklace chain is adjustable. The buckle at the end of the necklace could be linked at the back of the neck so the necklace could transform into a double-chain short necklace.
Taichi pattern has a history of 3000 years in China. It represent a philosophy of perfection, harmony, the infinite potential and the energy. I dug into the pattern, using sketches, paper models, 3D digital modeling to help me to understand the movement and energy that generated by the dance of Yin and Yang, and translated the energy inside the Taichi pattern into vibrant and graceful jewelry.
Taichi is a Chinese philosophical and cosmological concept for the "Supreme Ultimate" state of undifferentiated absolute and infinite potential, the oneness before duality. The pattern of Taichi is a symbol of perfection, harmony, the infinite potential and the energy.
