Unique Properties

Minimalist design with maximum durability and comfort — The No. 2 Eyewear is made from 0.5 mm ultra-thin Japanese shape-memory stainless steel with no welding joints and zero screws to ensure the frames can stand high pressure without breaking. Ultralight materials provide the best wearing comfort without any pressure on the nose and ears. Our patent-pending zero-screw locking hinge design replaced traditional screws and barrel hinges to prevent loose hinges and missing screws.

Production Technology

Made from 0.5 mm stainless steel through a series of bending and folding steps without welding joints and screws. Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) finishing is anti-scratch and hypoallergenic, and the process is clean and dry with no hazardous materials involved. Polycarbonate lenses with anti-reflective coating are impact-resistant, shatter-proof, and provide 100% UV protection. Medical-grade silicone nose pads and temple tips are hypoallergenic and offer the best comfort and grip.

Design Challenge

To achieve the best quality product, we spend a lot of time sourcing manufacturers and suppliers. There were a lot of trials and errors during the product development, but we were able to finalize the design and work with the best manufacturers and suppliers.

Project Duration

Designed in New York, USA. Handmade in Taiwan. Duration: January - December 2020.

Operation Flow

The No. 2 redesigns every step of eyewear experience from the moment you touch the sunglasses, the feel the quality and craftsmanship, the smooth motion when opening the temples/arms, the comfort and lightness when wearing the frame, and to the moment you take off the sunglasses you don't need to worry they got accidentally sit, bend, or stepped on.

Research

We conducted intensive research, surveys, and interviews to understand the eyewear market, user behaviors, and pain points of wearing glasses. The data shows most people experience eyewear discomfort and broken glasses. Our goal is to solve people/s eyewear problems without sacrificing style. We sourced various manufacturers and experimented with different materials, designs, and prototypes to ensure the top quality product.

Inspiration

People struggle with discomfort, heaviness of the frames, or constant repairs and take the unpleasant eyewear experiences for granted. That's because most eyewear in the market only focuses on the style rather than comfort and user experience into eyewear design consideration. THE NO. 2 EYEWEAR challenges the status quo by innovating how eyewear is designed, made, constructed to solve the eyewear problems that people continually experience.

Project Overview

The No. 2 Sunglasses has been a Silver winner in the Jewelry Design award category in the year 2020 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition.
