Bracelet for Maciej Kasprzak
Through the art of jewelry making, the designer wanted to create an object that reminds the wearer of enjoying every moment of life. Dancing with its long tradition and cultural significance were the main inspiration by creating this silver bracelet. The form of each link shows two abstracted people who are dancing together. Combined with light reflections the jewelry brings the idea of constant movement without seen beginning or ending.

The dance bracelet has not got a standard closure. The links are designed so that it is possible to open and close the jewelry after each link. This also allows adding, reducing or changing links if necessary. You can easily combine silber, gold or rose-gold parts to match your outfit. The project contains angular an round corners and can be worn by both men and women. It is not to heavy for a women or to thin for men.

This bracelet can be printed from castable resin and made from sterling silver without a loss of details. Silver is affordable for many and a lot of people are able to purchase it. For the best result it should be made from gold.
The challenge was to combine the form with the function of a bracelet in a wearable and ergonomic piece to suit to any wearer. I do not have a huge experience in designing anything. I am studying art and mathematics and you do not learn there, how to work with 3D tools. I started from scratch, learned a free 3D Software, printed small models, made changes and repeated printing and modeling until I was satisfied with the result. The biggest challenge was to learn how to render jewelry, set the lightning, material properties etc.
This project startet in September 2023 in Ziemetshausen and finished in February 2024 in Ziemetshausen (Germany).
It is possible to change or replace each element by just positioning the segments under the right angle. You can also combine silver and gold links, if it's better for the outfit.
I am fascinated by art and their history. The design of this bracelet is the result of a long study of the topic Dancing in historically important paintings and sculptures and a study of light reflection which provides the illusion of continuous movement. I wanted the bracelet to be made from silver (affordable material). Because silver is softer as gold I could not overcomplicate the design. I am convinced that you do not necessarily need gemstones when it comes to jewelry, but there is a lot to achieve only through the shape and light reflection. In all the jewelry available nowadays on the market I did not found anything I could compare with my project.
Dance, an art form that has prominence across all cultures and time periods, expressing emotions and allowing connections between people. Like art it is constantly changing and evolving with the time. As a student of mathematics and art I wanted to create an object which refers to art history, but is based on mathematical ideals such as golden ratio at the same time. The work Dance by Henri Matisse as well as the Dance from a study journal by Nicolas Lancret were my main Inspiration. The focus was more on translating a movement of two dancing people into an aesthetic shape rather than on modeling easily recognizable characters. Nevertheless effortlessly recognition of human bodies in the form of the link was wanted. The viewer should not be able to acknowledge the beginning or ending of the movement. For this reason I removed a normal closure mechanism and redesign the links instead. The design stays for following statements: Stop wasting time for activities you don’t enjoy. Life is too short. Live your life the best way you can. Time is running out... It symbolizes the transience of life (referring to vanitas - a genre of art). There are many different interpretation approaches and associations possible. Because it is an everyday jewelry piece it can be used for example as a remainder of priorities set in life and it motivates to action. This project refers on the other side to the tradition of bracelets and their cultural significance in different cultures. I took a closer look at bracelet worn by Timorese, where they serve as protective amulets or as important artifacts for ritual dances and other ceremonies. I wanted my project to be more than a shiny piece of jewelry.
