Contemporary Jewelry Line for MAYTE DOMECQ
From Straight to Curved: The Zig Zag Takes Shape. This applied research project explores the transformation of a straight line into a curve through cross-sections. The objective was to design a strong and visually striking necklace while minimizing material usage and optimizing structural efficiency. The methodology was based on direct experimentation, where different cutting and bending techniques were tested to achieve the desired flexibility and form

From straight to curved: the Zig Zag takes shape. Morphological transformation and body adaptation through transversal, equidistant, and rhythmic linear cuts. Each piece starts from double layered, overlapping leather rectangles that, through specific cuts, create distinct visual and functional rhythms depending on their placement, necklaces, bracelets, or earrings. This, along with the reuse of remnants, optimizes resources and maximizes material exploration.

Double layer cowhide leather, bonded together. Manufacturing, handcrafted using hole punch tools. Cutting dies are used for all necklace bodies, shaping straight edges into curves through repetitive, equidistant transverse cuts. This method minimizes material use, ensures optimal body adaptation, maximizes efficiency, and creates unique differentiation between pieces through variations in the cuts.
For the Zig Zag line, the challenge was to create a bold necklace without relying on large leather surfaces, using mostly small remnants. The key was generating curvature after cutting, transforming a 22 cm x 6 cm rectangle, the one used for the bracelet, into a striking piece. Equidistant cuts were tested to determine how close they could get to the edge for flexibility without risking breakage. Unlike a single cut piece, this method required precision to maximize material use while ensuring structural integrity.
The proyect started in January 2019 with the bracelet, january 2022 and finished in July 2022, the hole line in Bs As Argentina.
Designed for comfort and easy wear, these pieces can be put on without assistance. Ideal for daily use, they have the right weight to prevent strain. Their material ensures silent movement. Both necklaces and the bracelet feature metal cufflinks for secure fastening. The bracelet has two adjustable positions. The earrings use standard stainless steel posts that fit seamlessly into the earlobes.
From straight to curved: the Zig Zag takes shape. This is an applied research project aimed at transforming a straight line into a curve through cross sections. The goal was to create a strong necklace while minimizing material use. The methodology involved direct experimentation with the material. The result was remarkable, not only was the design immediately accepted, but it also received a clearly positive response. It is sold in Germany, Turkey, and Argentina.
When covering a notebook, rigid paper finds its flexibility through precise, cuts it folds, adapts, and embraces the shape without losing structure. That same principle guides the Zig Zag line. A firm lined rectangle transforms through strategic cuts that allow it to fall gracefully, as if the material were learning to move. Thus, what was once static becomes fluid, geometry adapts to the body, and air becomes part of the design.
