Unique Properties
Rebirth is a whale-shaped hand jewelry that is highly interactive with the wearer. Starting with a whale's skull as a nail ornament, the main body is hollowed out organically and winds up to the wrist. The whole shape is very fluid and breathing. The pearl and wavy lines highlight the Marine elements, making the wearer feel as if they are in the underwater world. Production Technology
3D designed and rendered. Materials are copper with 18k gold plated, cold enamel and pearl.
Design Challenge
The most challenging part is how to combine the hollow structure with the whale shape, and through multiple model experiments to match its wearability.
Project Duration
The project began in June 2022 in Shanghai, and completed in March 2023.
Operation Flow
In the structure of the project, the combination of organic structure and natural elements is used to explore the blending boundary between nature and future organic ecology. With the development of society and the change of current life, people's imagination of the future ecology is triggered. Rebirth is prominent in the avant-garde shape and interaction with the human body. Rather than being a part of the body or an ornament, the body brings the piece of jewelry to life and integrates with it. 3D modeling and rendering techniques provided great help and surprise in organic structural modeling.
Research
The project began by looking for a piece of jewelry that can show vitality and highly interact with the wearer. Whale fall first became the subject of research, and after several model experiments and iterations, a whale shaped hand piece was finally presented. In addition, Considering the comfort of wearing, the connection buckle and the fixed part of the jewelry were carefully considered and studied.
Inspiration
The work "Rebirth" is inspired by the whale fall. Whale carcasses can support entire marine life system. Born in the sea, hidden in the sea, dedication, light up all things. The design style combines organic ecology and natural elements to explore the blending boundary between nature and future organic ecology. The main design element is extracted from the shape of the whale in the process of sinking to the seabed, which echoes with the bright flowers, reflecting the power of rebirth.
Project Overview
Rebirth Hand Jewelry has been a Bronze winner in the Jewelry Design award category in the year 2022 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Bronze A' Design Award is given to outstanding designs that showcase a high degree of creativity and practicality. It recognizes the dedication and skill of designers who produce work that stands out for its thoughtful development and innovative use of materials and technology. These designs are acknowledged for their professional execution and potential to influence industry standards positively. Winning this award highlights the designer's ability to blend form and function effectively, offering solutions that enhance people's lives and wellbeing.
