The inspiration for the Ray Brooch comes from the ray of sunlight appearing through the clouds on a cloudy day. The luster of the pearls gives an extra soft glow, and the sparkle of the diamonds stands out like a ray of sunlight next to dark metal and black diamonds. The base color of the brooch is dark since it uses black rhodium-plated metal and a black diamond, but mixing with bright gemstones brightens up the entire piece.

The most challenging part of this piece was transforming the dark image into bright object, still containing the dark element.

Project Duration

The project was designed and completed in June 2022 in Milan, Italy

Research

My research began first by observing the cloudy day and capture the moment of the ray that comes out from the cloud. After I understood the shape and movement of the light, I then researched how to incorporate and design a piece that is fine, and balanced. I researched everything using online resources.

The Ray Brooch has been a Iron winner in the Jewelry Design award category in the year 2022 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition.
